The Church of St. Peter & Alexander

back to overview

With its unusual staircase, delicate Gothic gables and bulky but elegant tower, the Church of St. Peter and Alexander is a vital part of Aschaffenburg’s cityscape, as is Johannisburg palace. The oldest part of it dates back to the tenth century, making it one Bavaria’s oldest churches. The building contains some major works of art. The church is the only one in the world dedicated to St. Peter and Alexander, and it’s a key witness to Aschaffenburg’s history. There was an Alemann settlement here possibly as far back as the 4th century.
